Kendrick’s Verse: Where Was Soulja Boy?
The rap game is aflame right now after Big Sean released his new singe Control featuring Kendrick Lamar and Jay Electronica. But it was Lamar, who had the second verse, that stole the show with his controversial and hard hitting lyrics. In the song he mentions who he and many others consider the best rap artists; Nas, Jay, Em, Andre. Then he calls out many up-and-comers, including Mac Miller, J. Cole, and even Big Sean himself. He goes on to say how he ‘s got love for all of them, but that this isn’t a game and he plans on being the best, and if that means murdering (figuratively we hope) all of them, so be it.
It’s apparent that he respects these guys, because the list he drops is pretty good company as far as the newer generation of rap goes. Personally, we here at CTS don’t see it as a diss as much as an attempt by Lamar to get his other favorite artists to rise to the occasion and perhaps ignite a fire to the watered down, molly-trending lyrics and the bullshit instagram culture we see so often in the rap game lately. But we also noticed one specific rapper missing from his list of rap’s new school; Soulja Boy.
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY has affected the rap game the way Soulja Boy has, and to leave him off of such a prestigious list is blasphemous to say the least. We know Kendrick can’t possibly name EVERY rapper, but to give someone like Eminem props and then not say a single good thing about Soulja Boy… that’s FUCKED UP! The 23 year old wordsmith has graced our cochlear nerves with such rhymes as:
-Soulja Boy off in this hoe / watch me lean and watch me rock / Super man dat hoe / then watch me crank dat robocop
-Ain’t got time for chitchat I’m tryin to get this money / So get up out my face You doo-doo head dummy
-Skeet Skeet Skeeted on that hoe yea boy, i make it rain / Shawty dont do me, I don’t play no games
We here at CTS spoke with Soulja Boy about being left out of Kendrick’s verse, and he was very vocal about his resentment towards lamar.
“Bang skeet skeet! Fina supa soak dat nigga Kendrick. His shit is skeet skeet weak ya digg?! Leavin’ me off that list like that is some Bert and Ernie bullshit!”
We asked Mr. Tellem’ to elaborate.
“Man, just watch me woop-dee-doop and poopty-poop that nigga in my next track. Gobbledy-gook, higgledy-piggledy. Bow wow wow. BATHIN APES BITCH!”
Needless to say, Soulja Boy was unhappy, and rightfully so. Before he left, he made sure to tell us to tell Kendrick to “kiss my ass through the phone.” Kendrick was unfortunately unavailable to comment. Maybe he was off murdering Drake (literally we hope).
